Instagram vs real life

Why does Instagram has this power to make us go from happiness to feeling depressed in a snap of fingers ?

With its 800 million users, Instagram has become unavoidable, nevertheless more and more studies show the side effects of this social media, especially on young people.

It’s really easy to scroll through Instagram for five minutes and come to the conclusion that

everyone except you is living a perfect life.

Lies! Nobody drinks mimosas all day while nailing complicated yoga poses on gorgeous beaches.

The truth is, nowadays people are willing to do pretty much anything to gain popularity, including faking their way through life to make it seem perfect.

The Human-Computer Institute of the Carnegie-Mellon University (private research university based in Pittsburgh) carried out a study on social media and discovered that our passive reading of our friends’ posts while on Facebook would cause us to feel lonely, and even depressed.
Why, you might ask ? On social media we showoff our happiness and we don’t usually share what goes wrong in our lives.

Using Instagram is even worse than Facebook because it only highlights beautiful and artistic images of places we want to see, and people we want to be.

But beneath the surface of this shiny appearance is a harsh reality.

The line between real and fake fades, which trigger gloominess, make us question ourselves.

Many of these ‘perfect’ images promote totally unattainable ideals and unrealistic expectations that can never be achieved and only lead to feelings of jealousy, unhappiness and even depression.

The solution ? Put things into perceptive

People’s lives might look perfect, but yours isn’t bad either !

You don’t have to travel to the Caribbean every two months to think your life is acceptable.  There’s no need for you to put even more pressure on yourself ! You just have to appreciate your life for what it is, focus on yourself, be gentle with yourself.
